Janet feels at home with RBH

Date published: 12 September 2014

Janet Noble has used a three-month placement with RBH’s supported housing team as a springboard to success.

Family caring commitments had seen Janet, 50, from Jura Grove, Heywood, have a career break for 10 years before taking up a voluntary role as an administrative assistant with the mutual housing society.

After impressing with her commitment and dedication, she successfully applied for a 12-month traineeship with RBH’s Empty Homes team which will also see her study for an NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration.

Janet believes her time at RBH has been of huge benefit to her.

“When I started I was low on confidence as I hadn’t been in a work environment for so long. The improvement in my confidence has been amazing.

“I’ve also picked up valuable IT skills and gained experience in lots of different admin areas.

“The sheltered housing team have been very supportive and I would definitely advise anyone who is out of work to think about volunteering with RBH.”

RBH provides numerous volunteering placements each year in a range of roles as part of its commitment to helping local residents improve their employment skills.

In the past 12 months, 89% have gone on to gain employment at RBH or other organisations.

Daniel Turner, RBH Volunteer Co-ordinator, said: “Janet is the latest in a long line of success stories from our volunteering programme.

“As a mutual society we are keen to help residents improve their job prospects and want to hear from anyone interested in volunteering with us.”
