Crime Prevention Advice
Since last Friday, 19/09/14, there has been a sudden spike of robberies committed in Rochdale Central and the Spotland and Falinge areas.

Being arrested and charged with robbery could ruin your life It could lead to a criminal record and a prison sentence

If you steal from a person and use threatening words or physical violence or a weapon you have committed a robbery.

If you rob someone of 10p or £10,000 it doesn't matter - the offence is the same.

Think before you act as it could cost you a lot more than you've taken.

Be safe from street robberies - don't be an easy target

1. Always be in control and aware of your surroundings

2. Keep with friends as you're much safer in a group

3. Stay in area where there are plenty of other people about

4. Keep away from dark and isolated areas

5. At night stick to well-lit streets when you're walking anywhere

6. Don't go out wearing expensive jewellery

7. Keep mobile phones and electronic items concealed

8. Register your phone and other items at www.immobilise.com

Vehicle crimes

There has also been a sudden spike of vehicle crimes with Rochdale North areas - seven in total. In Healey four vehicle crimes were committed, one in Rochdale Central, one in Milkstone and Deeplish and one in the Town Centre.

Most vehicle crime is preventable

1. It can take just a few seconds for a thief to steal something from your car. The best way to protect your belongings is to lock your car whenever you leave it.

Other steps you could take are:

2. Removing everything from the car, don't even leave a jacket where it can be seen

3. Closing the sunroof along with the windows when you leave

4. Where possible, not storing things in the boot, take them with you

5. Storing car ownership information in your home, not in your car

6. Having a routine to ensure you always take the keys out of the ignition

7. Taking removable stereos and sat nav equipment with you

8. In addition, using secure (theft resistant) number plates can make your plate less attractive to thieves
