RSPCA shop opened by Councillor Karen Danczuk

Date published: 29 September 2014

The ninth RSPCA shop for the borough was officially opened on Friday (26 September) by RSPCA supporter and local councillor, Karen Danczuk.

The ribbon was cut at the shop on Oldham Road at 10am by Councillor Danczuk before customers were welcomed in.

After a successful opening, the shop went on to make over £300 with staff and volunteers describing the opening as “amazing”.

Shirley Mellor, shops area coordinator for RSPCA Rochdale, said: “We are hoping this is just the start of things to come. We also had some lovely donations.”

Councillor Danczuk is also setting up a just giving page to help raise money for the RSPCA and has said to her 20,000 followers on Twitter that if enough money is raised, then she will complete the ice bucket challenge for the cause.

Shirley added: “Our animal centre in Rochdale, now more than ever, needs the money. With winter approaching we anticipate a drain on our limited resources.”

The new RSPCA shop is located at 421 Oldham Road.
