Smithy Bridge level crossing signal box to be demolished
The signal box at Smithy Bridge level crossing, which is no longer being used, is set to be demolished between today (Monday 6 October) and Sunday 12 October.
It is understood that residents in Smithy Bridge have received a circular about the demolition from Network Rail’s Community Relations Manager.
Work on the demolition will primarily take place during the day with the possibility of some night time work mid-week.
A road closure will be in place on Saturday 25 October between 8:00am and 8:00pm to facilitate the removal of a redundant gas pipe.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: “Work to remove the signal box is due to begin tonight (6 October) and will continue overnight until Sunday 12 October. We have contacted local residents and councillors and briefed those who will be carrying out the work to do so as quietly as possible.”
