Do you have memories of the Rolling Stones from the 1960s?

Date published: 15 October 2014

Author Richard Houghton is looking for memories and stories of the Rolling Stones from the people of Rochdale to include in a book.

Richard is currently working on putting a book together regarding the Rolling Stones and is basing the book on the perspective of the fans.

He said: “There are lots of books written about the Rolling Stones and I have hundreds myself but I haven’t come across any that are written from the perspective of the fans.”

Richard is now asking for fans of the Rolling Stones to come forward with memories and their experiences of concerts and gigs that the Rolling Stones did in the 1960s.

“I know the Rolling Stones did a lot of gigs in the 1960s and they have been going since 1962 so the people who went at the time would have probably been teenagers and teenage girls,” added Richard.

In particular, Richard is hoping to hear from anyone who attended the Cubi Klub in Rochdale on 16 April 1964 when the band were due to appear but did not.

“I'd be interested to hear people’s memories of the evening and whether they saw any of the band members as some accounts suggest Mick Jagger and the rest were present,” said Richard.

It is hoped that the book will be published next summer. Richard has collected a number of stories but is looking for a few more to complete the book.

Anyone who has any memories they wish to share as part of the book can contact Richard via richardmhoughton@gmail.com
