Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival: Jackie Kay MBE

Date published: 25 October 2014

Scottish poet and novelist Jackie Kay MBE made an appearance at this year’s Rochdale Literature and Ideas Festival this evening (Saturday 25 October).

Jackie read from her recent short stories “Realty Reality” and “Fiere” as well as reading some new poems.

The event, at Number One Riverside, also saw Jackie tells tales from her life, including the day she met her biological father and mother.

The audience also had the opportunity to ask Jackie questions. Questions ranged from those about her inspiration when writing, what her work at Salford University will include and how universal her work is.

Karen Ruane who attended the event said: “It was brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. It was better than I expected. I sort of knew what to expect but it was better than I expected. It was fantastic. She is very funny.”

Judy Rathbone said: “It was really good. It was better than I expected. Jackie is the reason I came to the festival.”

Joan Sergeant said: “It was fabulous. She was fantastic. This is the third event we have been to as part of the festival and the whole thing has been great. We are very lucky to have this in Rochdale.”
