Freehold residents have set up a special café
Freehold residents have set up a special café to offer a friendly environment for people to socialise and find out more about their community.
RBH has provided the premises at 122 Farringdon and carried out improvement work while the council is offering financial support.
Residents performed much of the planning and preparation and will also be taking the lead now that it is open for business.
As well as offering the chance to socialise and learn about events and activities in the area, organisers also hope to offer vocational courses such as first aid and food hygiene to boost employment skills.
Local resident Yvonne Lord organised many of the preparations for the café’s opening.
Yvonne said: “It’s great to be finally up and running after all the hard work that so many people have put in.
“This is something that residents really wanted and it’s wonderful that RBH and the council are supporting us.”
Mary Wood, RBH Freehold Neighbourhood Manager, said: “As a mutual society we are committed to empowering residents to improve their community and are delighted to have been able to help with the café.
“This is something that will be run by the community for the community and I hope as many people as possible will come along to enjoy a drink, a snack and a chat.”
The café will be open from 9.30 - 11.30am on Fridays until the Christmas break with future opening hours depending on what best suits customers.
