Help and advice at Deeplish Primary School event

Date published: 22 January 2015

A wealth of useful information to keep families safe and well was provided at a special event at Deeplish Primary School.

A range of different organisations came together for the day with staff from Woman’s Welfare Association, Women’s Housing Action Group (WHAG), Kashmiri Youth Project, SAHELI, People’s First Housing and Link, offering friendly and practical advice.

More than 80 families went along and enjoyed the wide range of help available from advice about personal safety to getting to know their blood pressure and body mass index to having a relaxing hand massage.

They also enjoyed a range of delicious food made by parents from the school from ingredients supplied by local shops in the area - Haji Superstore, Worldwide Cash and Carry, Al Madina, and Raja Brothers.

Sharon Kelly, intervention manager at the Castlemere and Deeplish Sure Start Centres, said: “It was an opportunity to bring together different organisations in a relaxed and informal setting to show families the help and advice that is available in the community.

“It was very well run and very well attended and we wanted to spread the message that help is available all year round through the Sure Start Centres.”

Centre Worker Shabana Yunas said: "If families need any information about the above organisations they should not hesitate to contact the Sure Start Centre. We are here to help and the feedback from families has been extremely positive with a number of referrals made."
