Blooming marvellous!

The Croft Community Garden Society has been awarded £500 by the Rotary Club of Middleton towards their latest project to make their site a safer environment for local school children to visit and help with the establishment of a ‘Sensory Garden’.

The Croft Community Garden Society is a self-managed allotment and community garden located just off Valley Road in Boarshaw.

The donated money is to be used to clean up and restore the on-site natural pond and make it safe for children to do pond dipping. They also plan to create a ‘Sensory Garden’ using a variety of plant, hard landscaping and other materials that will appeal to all five senses.

Once the garden and pond are completed this will be another area for the schoolchildren to visit and make use of, particularly during the school’s ‘Eco-Week’.

Tony Gardner, of the Rotary Club of Middleton, was on hand to present the team with their cheque and enjoyed a full tour of the Valley Road site.

He said “it’s absolutely incredible what has been achieved here in a little more than two years and we at Rotary are delighted to be supporting this team and their project”, adding “it’s blooming marvellous”.

The money donated to The Croft Community Garden Society was raised by The Rotary of Middleton during their December Father Christmas Float Street and Middleton Gardens Collections.
