Firefighters called to Milnrow barn blaze

Several emergency calls were made after a barn caught fire in Rochdale.

North West Fire Control received a high number of duplicate calls about the blaze as it could be seen from the M62 in Milnrow.

Firefighters from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service went to the fire on Newfield Head Lane at 10.49pm on Thursday 23 April.

On arrival crew members were faced with a barn that was well alight and at the height of the incident around 25 firefighters and officers were in attendance.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using hose reels and a high pressure lance.

Watch Manager Tony Morgan, who was in charge of the incident initially, said: “We were greeted with a well alight barn and worked quickly to get water on to it.

“Wearing breathing apparatus we used hoses at first and then we applied the lance to stop the fire from growing to the other side of the barn.”

The incident was scaled down to two fire engines in the early hours of the morning and one crew will remain in attendance while fire investigation is carried out.
