Terry Leach, from Heywood and Darnhill Amateur Boxing Club, said: “We are currently looking to raise £5,000 and that is just a drop in the ocean. All together we need about £50,000.”

The initial £5,000 will cover the cost of materials and some labour costs to help them start on their journey to rebuilding the clubhouse.

Terry added: “The long term plan is to rebuild the clubhouse and we are hoping that we can get that completed in around 12-18 months. We have had some other clubs offer us places for our licensed fighters to train for the time being so the club will not stop.”

Heywood and Darnhill Amateur Boxing Club has been on the Darnhill estate since 1964 and is a much loved aspect of the community.

“Everyone has really come together to help us with this plan. The cub has been part of the community since 1964 so it well and truly is a much loved aspect of the community. People have really come together to help us and so far, we have already raised over £2,000,” said Terry.

Fundraisers are also hoping to hold a charity night, a car wash and a family fun day to help them reach their grand total.

Terry added: “We have a lot planned to reach the total we need. This fundraising is currently just the start.”

Those fundraising have also received pledges from a number of local businesses and members of the community who don’t have access to crowd funding online.
