Rochdale Cadets on parade

Date published: 26 May 2015

The East Lancashire Railway commemorated the 1940s with a festival of events along their preserved railway line over the weekend of 23-25 May. This included displays, dances, re-enactments, and on the Sunday, a parade through Ramsbottom which featured the cadets of Greater Manchester Army Cadet Forces.

The cadets marched down the high street, past the saluting dais outside the parish church to the applause of the watching crowd. The salute was taken by the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, assisted by the Commandant of Greater Manchester ACF, Colonel Mike Glover.

Following the salute, the cadets marched on to Ramsbottom Railway Station, renamed 'Nouvion' for the weekend, before embarking on a specially commissioned troop train, hauled by the steam engine 'Sapper'.
