Four families left homeless after fire tears through Bamford terrace

Four families are homeless after a fire spread through the roof of a terrace causing severe damage to four homes.

Six fire engines and an aerial platform from Rochdale and the surrounding areas were called to the blaze on Southview in Bamford at around 5.17pm on Wednesday, 1 July.

The crew were faced with a severe fire in one of the homes which had entered into the roof and spread through the void into adjacent properties.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus tackled the blaze using water jets from the ground and above using an aerial platform.

Group Manager Damian O’Rourke said: “The crews did a great job to stop this fire from spreading further in extremely punishing conditions.

“The families who have been affected by this incident are devastated by what’s happened and we are working with Rochdale Council and the Red Cross’ Fire Emergency Support Service to help them in any way we can.

“It’s too early to know what has caused this fire, but specialist fire investigators are on the scene making enquiries and beginning their investigation into the cause.”

Firefighters continued to fight the fire by stripping away the roofs of the affected properties and using thermal imaging cameras to identify the remaining pockets of fire.

The crew remained at the scene for most of the night.
