Simon Danczuk 'pleased' Chief Constable is retiring from policing

Date published: 10 July 2015

Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk says he is "pleased" the Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police, Sir Peter Fahy, is retiring from policing.

Whilst Mr Danczuk stressed he wanted to thank Sir Peter for the work he has “put in over the years for GMP”, he said it is “no secret” that he believed Sir Peter was “not suitable” to be Chief Constable.

Mr Danczuk said: “In many ways I am pleased Sir Peter is moving on. It is my belief that he has taken too liberal an approach to policing and set the wrong culture in GMP.”

Mr Danczuk has previously called for Sir Peter’s resignation saying: “Child abuse is getting worse under Sir Peter’s watch and it’s becoming clearer every week that he’s not up to the job.

"As the MP for Rochdale, part of my job is representing victims of abuse and doing all I can to get the law working for them to get rapists off the streets.

“As long as Sir Peter remains in post I’m not convinced that the law is working for the most vulnerable – and that has to change.”
