Voting opens for the RBH representative body elections

Date published: 23 July 2015

Tenant and employee members of RBH have the chance to make their voices heard as voting opens in the 2015 RBH representative body elections.

This year there are a record number of candidates, with a diverse set of 14 tenants and eight employees from across the Borough vying for the six tenant and four employee places to be filled.

RBH is the UK’s first tenant and employee co-owned mutual housing society, and the representative body is at the centre of the unique RBH model which places members at the heart of decision-making. RBH membership recently passed the 4,500 milestone, which means that over 25% of RBH tenants have now chosen to become members.

All RBH members are entitled to vote in the election, and it’s not too late to join and vote – membership is free and RBH tenants and employees can become members up to and including 10 August and still receive a ballot paper.

Sue Kershaw, RBH membership manager, said: “We’re delighted that our membership continues to rise and that over 4,500 of our tenants and employees will be able to vote in this year’s elections.

"Our members have the power to make a real difference to the areas in which they live, and by voting in the representative body elections they can make sure that they have a voice at the very heart of our mutual society.”

Edward Carpenter, RBH governance manager, said: “This year we have more candidates than ever before from across our many and varied communities.

"Democracy is one of our values and so it is really important for members to have a strong voice in the society.

"A high turnout in this election will give added strength to our new representatives and will be a real boost to the mutual RBH.”
