Karen Danczuk has not paid County Court Judgment

Date published: 04 August 2015

Karen Danczuk has failed to pay the County Court Judgment (CCJ) for £2045.32 plus £217 costs that was obtained by the landlord of her former shop, Danczuk's Deli, in Rochdale town centre.

Steven Butterfield, the owner of 4-6 The Walk, had to resort to court action against the estranged wife of Rochdale MP Simon Danczuk for non payment of rent.

Despite previously saying she hoped to "resolve this amicably in the near future", Mr Butterfield says he has heard nothing from Mrs Danczuk.

Speaking to Rochdale Online, he said: "Mrs Danczuk has not paid the County Court Judgment and I have had no contact from her whatsoever, she has just ignored the judgment."

Mrs Danczuk signed a five year lease in October 2013 and though the business closed earlier this year, she remains liable for the rent.

Since the CCJ was awarded, Mr Butterfield has invoiced Mrs Danczuk for another quarter (the arrears are accumulating at the rate of £2,000 per quarter) and says that this has not been paid and he will soon return to court to seek a further judgment against Mrs Danczuk and then ask the court to commence enforcement action.

There are a number of options for a claimant when asking a court to enforce a CCJ:

  • Send bailiffs to collect payment
  • Get money deducted from wages
  • Freeze assets or money in an account
  • Charge the person’s land or property

A spokesperson for Karen Danczuk said: "The court is currently looking at the whole claim.

"Since the original claim was put in by the landlord Karen sought legal advice. Upon doing this the judge is now reviewing the original order and Karen hopes for closure on the matter soon."
