Heywood celebrates Queen Elizabeth II as she becomes longest reigning UK monarch

Members of the Heywood community came together to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II as she became the longest reigning UK monarch on Wednesday (9 September).

Sandon House held a celebration meal and raffle with entertainment, which was organised by Heather Stott.

St Luke’s Church invited members of the public to dress up in red and white to celebrate the milestone. The event was attended by local priests, Lancashire veterans and the church choir.

A large crowd gathered for the event which included entertainment, singing, flag waving and refreshments.

At 5.30pm on Wednesday 9 September, Queen Elizabeth had reigned for 23,226 days, 16 hours and approximately 30 minutes – surpassing the reign of her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.
