Residents concerned about flooding

Date published: 14 September 2015

Residents from the Butterworth Hall area in Milnrow have expressed their concerns to Councillor Allen Brett about potential flooding.

Several residents who live in the area met with Councillor Brett on Saturday (12 September) to discuss their worries.

Butterworth Hall Brook flows through Milnrow and is a tributary of the River Beal.

Rising at Tunshill, just south of Tunshill Farm, the brook flows in a south-westerly direction towards Milnrow and is culverted under the M62 motorway. The brook then runs along the eastern boundary of Tunshill Golf Course, down a Clough through Claylands Head and to the hamlet of Butterworth Hall. It is again culverted beneath Church Terrace before passing under Bilson Bridge on Newhey Road, joining the River Beal, behind Milnrow precinct.

Councillor Brett said: “I used part of my time to study the river course, which is heavily overgrown and no one had ever seen it like that. I do not think the Council has a responsibility but have alerted them and hopefully North West Water.”
