Date published: 02 November 2015

Castleton Councillor Aasim Rashid was in attendance at the Living Wage Foundation campaign at Salford University this morning (Monday 2 November).

Councillor Rashid attended the conference to show his support for the Living Wage.

Local accredited Living Wage employers include Rochdale Online, Rochdale Boroughwide Housing, E R Williams (Painting Contractors), Burgaflex and Social Care Network Solutions.

The Living Wage is an hourly rate that is calculated according to the cost of living.

Councillor Rashid said: “In Greater Manchester we need to take action to win more living wages for thousands of people experiencing in work poverty today.

“Over 5 million people in the UK are struggling on minimum wage to pay for housing, proper meals and home heating. The living wage is an hourly rate calculated to cover the basic essentials of living like housing, food and transport.

“Its aims are to raise people out of poverty.”

Living Wage Week takes place from Sunday 1 November to Saturday 7 November and is a UK-wide celebration of the Living Wage and Living Wage employers.
