Middleton Rotary's Kwirky Kwiz

Date published: 19 February 2013

The Rotary Club of Middleton Youth and Vocational Projects Committee held their first “Kwirky Kwiz” at Middleton Cricket Club on Friday 15 February.

Hosted by Chair Sue Furby and Treasurer Keith Trinnaman over fifty keen quizzers came along for a splendid evening of fun. The atmosphere was vibrant and some of the questions challenging, ranging from a cryptic round to naming the states of America, Shakespeare’s plays and identifying countries and seas.

Teams had a joker to play for double points, but as this was a “kwirky kwiz” they had to nominate their round without prior knowledge of the subject or how many points were available! There were also several “spot questions” throughout the evening generating extra points and prizes.

Universally Challenged won the overall quiz, a team comprising Pat and Brian McDougall, Claire and Lee Wolf and Jim Kenyon. Star-Wars Circle, a team from Rochdale Circle picked up the wooden spoon prize.

Rotarian Sue Furby said: “I’d like to thank everyone for supporting our first “Kwirky Kwiz”, from the people who attended to those who sponsored raffle prizes, including Thornberries of Middleton who kindly donated a £25 voucher. Without people’s support fundraising is extremely difficult. We raised £226 for youth projects in Middleton and the Nicholas Bamforth SDR Fund. We are looking forward to hosting our 2nd Grand Beetle Drive sometime in September following its success last year.”

Information about the Grand Beetle Drive will be publicised at a later date.
