Pennine Township geared up for the Tour De France

Date published: 05 March 2014

Rochdale Council, members of the Pennine Township Committee and local residents are geared up to welcome the Tour De France to Littleborough and are looking to make the event an unforgettable one.

Mark Widdup, Director of Economy and Environment at Rochdale Council, announced at Tuesday's Pennine Township Committee meeting that a report is being presented to Rochdale Council Cabinet on Monday 10 March outlining plans for activities and events leading up to and during the Tour De France.

He added: “This needs to be a significant event for this town as well as the whole of the borough. Even if it is only a small distance, many countries would kill to have this opportunity but it is coming through this township and we will make sure it is something we all remember.”

The sporting event will pass through Littleborough on Sunday 6 July and many organisations throughout Littleborough are organising events to mark the occasions.

Irene Davidson, who is part of the Pennine Tourist Group said: “Littleborough will be the hub of this event and many groups have been working hard for the past twelve months to make sure that this will be a weekend that we will never forget.”

Thousands of spectators are expected in Littleborough to witness the event, which will see cyclists pass along a section of the B6138 and the A58 adjacent to Blackstone Edge Reservoir.
