Will Bosisto named as Rochdale professional

Date published: 23 March 2016

Rochdale Cricket Club has secured the services of one of Australia’s most dynamic up and coming younger players, Will Bosisto.

The Club moved swiftly to find a replacement for their 2016 professional Farveez Maharoof who shocked Redbrook officials last week when he told them wouldn’t be able to fulfil his contract because of a previously undiagnosed back injury.

Bosisto, 22, plays for Western Australia, the state which previously provided Rochdale with such good players as Mike Veletta and Robbie Baker.

A right handed batsman and right arm off-spin bowler, Bosisto plays his club cricket for the Claremont Cottesloe in Perth, a club which provided the State team with many fine players over the years.

The Geraldton-born player, who attended one of Perth’s finest public schools, Scotch College, before continuing his studying at the University of Western Australia, is expected to arrive in Rochdale the week before the new Pennine League opens on 24 April.

After signing a junior contract with the West Australian Cricket Association in 2011, he was quickly promoted to captain the Australian team in the ICC Under 19s World Cup in 2012.

He made his senior debut for Western Australia in October 2013, scoring his maiden first class century against Victoria at the MCG.

Nicknamed 'Boz', his colleagues in the West Australian team include Adam Voges, Sean and Mitch Marsh and Ashton Aygar.

A Rochdale spokesman said this week: “We are delighted to have signed Boz, especially at such short notice. He is obviously a very good young player and we wish him all the best during his time herewith us at Redbrook.”

Rochdale also announced this week that prolific young West Indian amateur batsman Marradon Bend would again be returning to Redbrook.

The young Barbadian’s visa came through this week and he is also expected at Redbrook the week before the season begins.

Last summer Bend scored 835 runs, second only to professional Wes Landsdale, with a highest score of 109 for an overall batting average of 33.40.
