David Smith taking the long road to Spotland for charity

Date published: 16 April 2016

David Smith will be at today’s Rochdale game against Blackpool, seeing the Dale play at Spotland for the first time in almost 50 years.

David, 53, who now lives near High Wycombe, was last at Spotland when he was just five-years-old. After moving away from the town, he supports Dale from afar but takes in games when Rochdale are playing at the likes of Gillingham, Crawley Town, Oxford United and Wycombe Wanderers.

Once a year, David looks to raise money for charity, and this year he has chosen to attend Dale’s League One fixture versus Blackpool.

What’s so special?

He’s travelling from High Wycombe to Rochdale via local buses only.

He set off on his epic bus journey on Thursday, starting at High Wycombe, before going on to Aylesbury, Oxford, Rugby, and so on up the country. It’s anticipated that he’ll take around 20 buses to get to Spotland.

He is making the journey in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support and has raised around £1,000 so far.
