Maggie Page wins gold at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta

Date published: 03 May 2016

Maggie Page, from Hollingworth Lake Rowing Club (HLRC), won gold representing the north west region at the the Junior Inter Regional Regatta.

Junior rowers representing the regions from all over England descended on the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham to compete in every category of rowing from singles to eights.

Maggie Page, who earlier in the year won a gold medal at the English Indoor Rowing Championships, competed in the women's J14 Single Sculls.

The first heat that Maggie competed in was to determine who would race in the A final and B final. The heat was strongly contested but Maggie won well, achieving the best time over all the competitors. This was despite a major 'wobble' just metres from the finish line. Her coach, Ian John, commented that Maggie had nearly given him a heart attack.

In the A Final, Maggie put in an excellent performance, and despite being behind up to the last 200 metres, she pushed her way to an impressive gold medal.

Maggie said she felt quite relaxed, and was determined she was not going to be beaten.

A club spokesman said: "She did herself, the club and the north west region proud with an outstanding performance."
