Norden out of LCB knockout

Date published: 20 June 2016

Norden slipped out of the LCB knockout on Sunday, beaten by the rain and a fairground style test of skill.

They had scored 168 for five, with three of their 45 overs left, when rain made further play impossible.

The options were then for a bowl out or toss of a coin.

A shoot-out on the field was out of the question, but it was agreed to hold a bowl out in the nets, which was not ideal, but better than the outcome resting on the flick of a penny.

Norden and Moorside each scored two hits, and Moorside then snatched a sudden death decider.

In the earlier play Norden had made a faltering start.

Michael Price was on eight - the total – when he slammed a Lee Warburton delivery back into the hands of the bowler.

Rehan Udwadia was stumped off the same bowler, Warburton trapped Simon North leg before, and Norden were 46 for three.

Ash Gowers and Steve Pimm started to pull the innings round, but Pimm was stumped for 13, and Harvey Fitton was caught for the same score.

That made it 125 for five with the overs fast running down, but Gowers and Martin Smith pushed on to 168 before the rain came.

Gowers was 63 not out at close, and Smith was on 17.
