Norden out of the Wood Cup

Date published: 27 June 2016

Norden went out of the JW Lees Wood Cup on Sunday, beaten 3-2 in a bowl out by Walsden at Scott Street.

By the time the rain came Walsden had totalled an all out 224.

It was a score based round a brilliant knock of 93 by Nick Barker who smacked 10 fours and four sixes.

The strip was made for runs, and Norden did well to keep the score down to less than 250.

Martin Smith delivered 10 good overs without having much luck, although he did pick up one wicket courtesy of a catch by Chris Hartley.

Hartley himself took one for 13 in just under seven overs before an injury forced him out of the attack, and Nick Fairchild didn’t have much luck as he delivered eight tight overs before two loose ones were punished.

Michael Price took three for 47 in nine, and Simon North took three for 44, one of them by way of an amazing catch by Steve Pimm who made up yards and dived full length to snatch the ball low and just inside the boundary.

That was it as far as the proper game was concerned and it was on to a bowl out in the rain.

Simon North hit with the first delivery, but only Dexter Fitton of the rest found the stumps. One of Walsden’s three hits couldn’t have been better, it uprooted the middle stick.
