Victory for the GMCL U14s

Date published: 28 June 2016

The first battle of the newly formed Pennine and Greater Manchester Cricket Leagues U14s took place on Sunday at Unsworth CC and resulted in a resounding victory for the GMCL.

In a game threatened by the arrival of evening rain both managers agreed to reduce to 30 overs a side prior to the 2pm start of play at Unsworth CC.

The Pennine League won the toss and put GMCL into bat on a damp green wicket.

GMCL batted sensibly for the full 30 overs amassing 149 for eight, the most notable contribution coming from opener and captain Dan Ainscough with 36 at a run a ball.

Pennine League lost two wickets in the first two overs and were always behind the required run rate, eventually being bowled out for 101 inside 25 overs.

Wickets were shared between Kamran Hussain, Aaaryman Roy, Lleyton Belston (all 2), Dan Ainscough, Lewis Dolan and Sam Openshaw.

Jim Ainscough, GMCL U14 inter league manager, said: "Huge credit must go to the great team of volunteers at Unsworth CC for getting the game on. Thank you

Next game is Sunday 17 June, away versus Liverpool comp.
