Nicola White scores in Great Britain hockey win

Date published: 12 August 2016

Nicola White was again on target in the Olympic games on Friday (12 August) as Great Britain’s woman’s hockey team defeated Japan 2-0.

The Littleborough hockey star scored late in the final quarter of the game as she lashed the ball in on the volley from close-range, taking her tally up to two for the games after netting in the 3-0 win against India on Monday (8 August) as well.

Lily Owsley put Great Britain ahead in the fifth minute and Helen Richardson-Walsh had a goal ruled out at the start of the fourth quarter before Nicola’s goal five minutes from time.

The win maintained Great Britain’s 100% record in Rio so far but despite being level on points with Pool B leaders the United States, Nicola’s side are second because of their inferior goal difference.

Great Britain will face the United States on Saturday (13 August) in a match which they need to win in order to finish top of Pool B.
