Milnrow Cricket Club secure mouth-watering end to their season

Date published: 12 September 2016

Milnrow secured third place in the Pennine Cricket League Championship with a thumping victory at Uppermill on Saturday and in doing so have set up a mouth-watering end to their season.

They will take on Monton this Saturday in the play-off game to try and gain a place in next season's PCL Premiership.

Monton finished third from bottom in the top division and Milnrow visit them in the hope of taking their place next season.

Milnrow will go into the game with real optimism having finished only one point behind second place team, Stayley, and on Saturday, they crushed Uppermill with a ten wicket victory.

Uppermill were batting well until Declan Wilkinson, back from Australia, took two quick, crucial wickets and then Uppermill collapsed. Wilkinson finished with four for 19. At the other end, Deputy Professional, Saeed Anwar bowled with his great skill to take five for 22. Uppermill were all out for 83.

Milnrow knocked the runs off in 11.1 overs with Anwar smashing the bowling and finishing 59 not out off just 41 balls. At the other end, stand in skipper, Lee Crabtree, finished with 23 not out and ensured Milnrow got home with ease.

The team now goes into the weekend's game at Monton with the chance to secure a place in the top division and the prospect of playing many of their local rivals again in big games should inspire them to victory.
