Hockey: Didsbury Northern Ladies 3 - 7 Rochdale Ladies

Date published: 11 October 2016

Riding high from their 10-0 victory last week, Rochdale ladies travelled to Didsbury Northern Ladies on Saturday and kept their unbeaten run going.

The first half proved to be a tough task with Didsbury taking an early lead, but Rochdale have a determination about them this season and it wasn’t long before Jenny Banks had pulled them level.

Throughout the first half Didsbury proved worthy opponents and pushed Rochdale every inch of the way and scored again to take the lead.

Once again Banks drew Rochdale level.

In the second half Rochdale played to their strengths and moved the ball quickly and Didsbury were no match for them.

With Didsbury fading, two quick goals from Banks and a first of the season for new girl Katie Burrell gave Rochdale a comfortable three goal lead.

The slick passing continued as Rochdale dominated and two further goals from Ashleigh Hoyle gave Rochdale an easy victory.

Didsbury scored a late consolation.

Captain Kie Leech said: “The first half was hard, Didsbury gave us a real fight, but this team has something special this year and these girls don’t give up easily.

"The second half saw us play to our strengths and it paid off, particularly in midfield where Paula McDonald once again was outstanding and deserving of the player-of-the-match.”

Next Saturday (15 October) sees a top of the table clash, when Rochdale play host to Urmston Ladies at Oulder Hill, 12 noon push back.
