Rugby Union: Littleborough RUFC 25 - 18 Silloth RUFC

Date published: 24 October 2016

Littleborough RUFC won against Cumbrian vistors on Saturday.

Littleborough welcomed back Andy Walton back from injury and he showed his out of hand kicking early on, plus early attack with ball in hand.

Silloth took the lead early on with a converted penalty.

Good running from Murphy Holt lead to the ball being sent out wide for winger Matthew Goldthorpe who put in a fine run and crossed the line for Littleborough’s opening try.

Kershaw prevented the Stilloth fullback scoring the first try with an excellent tackle. However, Stilloth took the lead again via another converted penalty.

As the first hlaf came to a close, Silloth increased their lead with a well worked try.

The match was stopped by the referee as an air ambulance helicopter came into land nearby in response to a bad injury on a nearby pitch only to find out that an ambulance had already picked up the player to take him to hospital for check-up.

A run by Goldthorpe lead to a penalty to Littleborough which was converted by Kershaw just prior to half time whistle.

Half time: Littleborough RUFC 8 - 11 Silloth RUFC

In the second half Littleborough were more in command of the game, playing in their opponents half. The pressure paid off when and a kick across the field to the left wing found Kershaw who went over for Littleborough‘s second try.

Kershaw had to leave the field shortly after and is unlikely to play again for some weeks due to a leg injury.

Littleborough were starting to pass the ball down their back line but against the run of play, Stilloth got the ball and ran in a converted try.

Josh Ellidge came on to replace Paul Fino for Littleborough and after attacking the visitors line Boro got their third try. Converted by Nathan Coop.

Near the end of the match Goldthorpe again made a superb wing attack and play then moved across the pitch to the right wing where Murphy Holt crossed the line for Littleborough’s fourth try to seal the win.

Littleborough’s man-of-the-match award went to Josh Park for his determined effort in defence and attack.
