Rugby League: Mayfield trio in Lancashire Tri Counties game

Date published: 29 November 2016

Mayfield trio Callum Ogden, Aidan Gleeson and Setgreki Tala were all involved as Lancashire lost their opening game of the BARLA Tri Counties Series at Askam.

Ogden and Gleeson started the game in the front row of the pack with Tala adding considerable punch from the bench but he was later sinbinned for a high tackle as Lancashire lost 18-10.

Peter Lister (2) and Marcus O'Brien scored Cumbria's tries with Sam Grainey and Jimmy Muir responding for Lancashire. Clayton Sutton also kicked three goals for Cumbria with Sean Leicester adding a solitary goal for the red rose county.

Lancashire now need to beat Yorkshire by ten points in the decider at Ince Rose Bridge this Sunday (1pm kick off Under 19s, Open Age following completion of that game).

There was better news for Rochdale Mayfield stand-off Zac Baker who was in imperious form for Lancashire Under 19s. He walked away with a deserved man of the match award as Lancashire eased to a 38-4 win over their Cumbrian counterparts.
