Hockey: Lancaster & Morecambe 5 - 1 Rochdale Men’s Seconds

Date published: 20 February 2017

Having travelled without four regulars from the starting eleven, Rochdale Men’s Seconds succumbed to Lancaster on Saturday.

Captain Karl Wynn had managed to draft in Sean Carney from the first team and several of the U15s squad to make up the numbers.

For much of the first half Rochdale held their own and competed in all areas of the pitch.

However, despite Brian Robinson pulling off a magnificent save from a penalty flick, Lancaster went into the half time break two nil up.

Rochdale started the second half with the same gusto they had finished the first and soon got their reward. The ball was swept out wide to Andy Meanock, he drove a cross in to Josh Robinson who found the back of the net to socre Rochdale's only goal of the game.

Rochdale did have further chances with Robinson and Carney just failing to get on the end on several crosses.

Lancaster are a fit young side and Rochdale faded in the last 15 minutes of the game.

Imran Ansari was reating chances, but Lancaster were beginning to dominate.

They were awarded another penalty flick and this time Robinson just missed saving, and at 3-1 the game was effectively over.

With their tails up Lancaster went on the score another two.

Captain Karl Wynn: “It was another hard game, we competed well and battled all over the pitch.

"Imran Ansari was fully deserving of the Quat-Chem man-of-the-match, he constantly drove forward all game.”
