Date published: 29 March 2017

Hopwood Hall College first team infliced a huge defeat on Welsh rivals Coleg Menai in a 10-1 win at Llandudno FC’s Giant Hospitality Stadium.

Continuing their 100% League record, Hopwood took home three points and a 13th win from 13 games.

In a first half that saw plenty of chances for both sides, Hopwood Hall’s prolific striker Jacob Frost maintained his scoring run with goals in the 17th and 36th minute.

After the break, despite being two goals behind, Menai showed no signs of letting off the pressure.

The Welsh team had Hopwood Hall pinned in their own area for much of the start of the second half. However, against the run of play, a quick counter attack and a low drive from Owen Shaughnessy increased Hopwood’s lead to 3-0.

Two minutes later Shaughnessy scored again with another low drive into the corner.

Shaughnessy’s brace broke the spirited Welsh side, and Kieran Glynn made it 5-0 before Frost completed his hat-trick.

Menai college tried to mount a come-back after scoring a consolation goal from a corner, but in their search for more goals left their defence wdie open.

Hopwood scored again through the in form Danny Cryer, followed by a smart headed goal from captain Ben Matthews.

Topping off the rout, with the very last kick of the game, Joe Richards sent a rocket of a half-volley into the top corner.

The win sees Hopwood Hall consolidate their lead at the top of the table before they take on Blackpool & Fylde at home.
