Mayfield preview

Date published: 07 April 2017

After a much-improved performance last week at home to Kells Mayfield are looking to take that improvement on the road on Saturday as they travel down the East Lancs road to face Leigh Miners.

Matt Calland and Sam Butterworth will be looking to carry forward that momentum into this game as they look for their first away win of the season.

The young players that have been drafted into the side have performed admirably so far with
improvements evident in every successive game.

Zak Hartley, Matty Ashton and James Connaughton all shone last week and with the more
experienced players coming to the fore there is a good blend.

Miners have struggled this season after losing their coach and their half back partnership in the close season but they are a side never to be underestimated with a strong squad and a good skill set running through the club.

The resurgent Mayfield NWML side play hosts to the other Leigh side as Leigh East are the visitors to the Mayfield sports Centre.

Despite the early stage of the season this is a big game for both sides with both having three wins from their three games.

Mayfield top the division with their superior points difference and the coaching team are confident they can consolidate that with another win.

Marvin Connolly and Neil Ramsden are pleased with the response from the team, with Connolly saying: “I’m really excited by the potential of this young side.

“The attitude and application at training has been brilliant and if we take that forward into this game we should have enough to beat Easts and stay at the top of the division.

“With an average age of around 18 this team could have ten years together and that is magnificent for the club.”

Sponsors for the NWML game at Mayfield are CnC projects.
