Cycling: East Lancs junior riders compete in Regional Youth Championships

Date published: 24 April 2017

East Lancs junior riders competed in the Regional Youth Championships - a 10-mile time trial on the J2/1 course from Monks Heath cross roads to Chelford, then on to Booths Hall roundabout where they circled the island retraced back.

It was a head wind out to the turn, which pushed the time back a bit but all the riders put in a good effort.

  • Sofia Riley 33:52 mins
  • Nicole Decamps 32:34 mins (a new personal best)
  • Niamh Coulter 31:14 mins
  • Joe Cooke did 28:42 mins (despite losing his chain with two miles to go)
  • Jack Millar 25:44 mins
  • Noah Codling 27:26 mins

The East Lancs girls were the fastest team of three and may qualify for the national finals in September.

In the supporting senior event the East Lancs ladies recorded the following times:

  • Karen Bailey 28:19 mins
  • Georgina Cape 27:45 mins

In the men’s event Jason Codling punctured with half a mile to go to the finish.

At a slightly more sedate pace but not necessarily easier, Phil Booth, Stuart Duggan and Mike Coulter completed the Red Rose Audax, which is a distance ride of 200Kms going to Glasson Dock near Lancaster, and back.

A club spokesperson said: "Well done to all three riders who keep clocking up the points in the club’s Audax competition."
