Date published: 06 June 2017
Shahruf Ali, 14, of Hamer Amateur Boxing Club, has been awarded a place on the England Talent Pathway Programme.
He will be attending up to twenty training camps around the country which will focus on technical and tactical development.
England coaches will be assessing and monitoring his progress, which could lead to him being selected to box for England in international events.
Steven Connellan, Hamer coach, ssaid: "This is a massive achievement by Shahruf and our boxing club.
“He has worked very hard to gain this opportunity and we hope his progress warrants him being chosen to gain an England vest and representing this great country of ours.
"The England call-up has coincided with our female boxer, 15-year-old Jude English, being presented a commemorative England boxing vest for representing England in the Tri Nations, gaining a silver medal, and also against Ireland in 2016."
