Chorley 0 - 4 Rochdale

Date published: 21 July 2017

Dale put four past Chorley in a pre-season friendly victory.

With Dale in action at both Chorley and FC Halifax Town on the same night, the first team squad was split across the two fixtures.

Following the injury to Brendan Moore in Tenerife, it provided an opportunity for second year scholar Bradley Wade to complete 90 minutes against his home town team. Fellow second year scholar Isaac Ward also featured, as did Keith Kearney.

Chorley started well but faded as Dale began to dominate.

Steven Davies tested the goalkeeper before firing a free-kick just over the bar.

Callum Camps struck just wide of the post on the half volley, before a trialist put Dale ahead ten minutes before the break. A Kearney ball in the from the left was met by Davies and he picked out the trialist, who slotted home into the bottom corner of the net.

Four minutes into the half Andy Cannon saw a low effort kept out by the Chorley goalkeeper, who under pressure from Davies, spilled the ball but recovered to smother to prevent the Dale forward from getting a follow up shot away.

The trialist scored his second of the game to double Dale’s advantage. Latching on to a lay-off from Ollie Rathbone, he slotted beyond the Chorley goalkeeper.

Dale extended their lead again when the trialist completed his hat-trick with a goal midway through the half.

Davies rounded off the scoring shortly before full-time with a close range finish.

Rochdale: Wade, Brown, Ward (Gillam, 83), Canavan, Kearney, Camps, Allen, Rathbone, Cannon, Trialist, Davies. Subs: Piper, Neild, Renner, Appiah, Tavares, Bradley.
