Rugby Union: Thornton 32 - 8 Littleborough

Date published: 08 January 2018

Littleborough Seconds fought tenaciously all game but could not prevent table topping Thornton Cleveleys Firsts claiming another home win.

The Fylde coast club has enjoyed an unbeaten run this season and showed that right from the off with two straightforward penalties 15 metres out.

It could have been more but Littleborough's defence was resolute at close quarters. Paul Fino, Josh Ellidge and George Roberts all contributed significantly.

Thornton like to throw the ball around in midfield and displayed creative attacking play when carving open Littleborough with a try from the open side flanker.

Littleborough scored their first points of the game when Dominic Kershaw kicked over a penalty from the left-hand side after winger Aaron Jones was taken out off the ball.

Half time: Thornton 13 - 3 Littleborough

Thornton's right sided winge raced clear for the first try of the second half. His fellow winger made his mark with a try in the left corner.

Littleborough's Joel Rawlinson scored in the right corner in support of his scrum half Konrad Hill.

The Thornton open side flanker continued to make his mark on proceedings and scored his second try of the afternoon from close range on the right-hand side of the post.

Thornton started 2018 as they finished in 2017 while Littleborough hope that a run of home games in the next month revitalise their promotion push.
