Hockey: Rochdale Seconds 2 - 1 Golborne Seconds

Date published: 16 January 2018

Rochdale's first game since before Christmas ended in victory over Golborne.

The game started off fast and furious with Rochdale fending off a flurry of Golborne attacks.

As the game progressed Rochdale found their footing and started to spread the ball around playing good hockey with lots of passing and running off the ball.

Whenever possession was lost Rochdale quickly got back behind the ball denying the attacking Golborne players time to develop their attacks.

Rochdale opened the scoring with a reverse stick shot from Luke Rosebury.

Golborne appealed the goal claiming it went through the side netting, but after discussion by both umpires the goal stood.

Rochdale started the second half with the same gusto theyhad finished the first and this started to pay off with four short corners in quick succession. Rochdale tried different tactics for each one, before on the last of the four Tim Liptrot doubled Rochdale's lead.

With less than 10 minutes to play Golborne pressed hard and they pulled a goal back to deny Brian Robinson in the Rochdale goal a clean sheet despite his best efforts.

Captain Karl Wynn: “The guys played well, reserving as much as we could afford for Sunday's game.”

Man-of-the-match: Alex Paolozzi.
