Hockey: Rochdale Seconds 2 - 4 Didsbury Northern Sixes

Date published: 16 January 2018

The second game of the weekend for Rochdale Men’s Seconds saw them lose at home to Didsbury Northern Sixes.

Rochdale started the game strongly with good attacking play and stern defending at times.

The Didsbury midfield looked quite formidable and Rochdale had to keep their heads and work hard.

Rochdale were getting the run of play and with a few quick and well timed passes the returning Scott Hempsall-Jones was able to force his way into the D and secure an early lead with a top D shot.

Rochdale were quick to get back and defend when they lost possession not allowing the Didsbury midfield any room to build.

Having won the ball back effectively , Rochdale counter attacked with pace and this resulted in another Rochdale goal courtesy of Bjorne Brauns just before half time.

Rochdale sat back in their own half and gave away a free hit to Didsbury which was quickly taken, and running straight into the D the Didsbury striker fired hard and low at the net.

The second half started off with as much pace as the first half had finished and the game was flowing well.

A flurry of short corners for Didsbury saw them score to draw level.

Rochdale attacked well but failed to convert, and this was to be their undoing as energy reserves faded. Didsbury were able to take control of the game and put away two more goals before the final whistle.

Captain Karl Wynn: “Even though we lost, there were plenty of positives to be taken forward from this game, we showed how well we can play when the players rally around each other to keep themselves going and play as single unit.

"It is a shame we can only give one Atticus Trophies man-of-the-match as the whole team deserves it, but Luke Rosebury put a real shift in.”
