Hockey: Stockport Bramhall Ladies Seconds 2 - 3 Rochdale Ladies

Date published: 23 January 2018

Rochdale's derrmination ensured they built on last week's win to beat Stockport Bramhall Ladies Seconds, despite the late push back time meaning they were without key players.

From the start the game was end-to-end and Rochdale had several chances on goal but Stockport’s defence stood strong.

A well worked move by Kie Leech, Katie Burrell and Rebecca Newton saw the ball driven into the Stockport D area where Banks was eagerly waiting. She picked up the ball and smashed it into the back of the net for the opneing goal.

Stockport had several substitutes and they used these wisely and within minutes they were back level with a break down the middle of the pitch.

Halpin, Hodcroft and Pickering, combined well to get the bal into the Stockport D for Banks to tap into an open net.

Stockport scored the first goal of the second half. They picked the ball up on the wing and drove it into the D and gained a short corner. This was expertly converted with one touch  to level the score.

Rochdale, desperate for another win, stepped up a gear. Good movement by Collinson, Leech and Pickering saw the ball driven into the D where Pickering passed to Banks, but a Stockport defender intercepted. However, the ball rolled back to Pickering who sneaked it through the keeper's legs for what was ultimately the winning goal.

The final 10 minutes saw the Rochdale defence work hard to deny Stockport.

Captain Kie Leech said: "I am so pleased with the team spirit and the working hard together this season, we have not give up in any match and another win this week proves determination finally gets results. Well done ladies."

The player-of-the-match went to Nikki Mongan.
