Rugby League: Littleborough Thirds 3 - 27 Crosby St Mary's

Date published: 10 September 2018

Littleborough Thirds fell to defeat in their first game of the season as they went down against Crosby St Mary's first team at Rakewood.

Littleborough, who were playing at this level for the first time in five years, matched Crosby for the first 60 minutes and were unlucky to be down 5-3 at half time.

The visitors took advantage of a tired Littleborough side to take home all four points.

In greasy wet conditions and with the match being the first of the new campaign for Littleborough Thirss, the game was scrappy in nature and would not have been one for the neutral as the two sides played out a slug fest. No team was willing to back down or have the necessary spark to unlock the opposition door.

Littleborough had the better of the first half and were unlucky not to go ahead when Tom Travis hit the left-hand woodwork with a penalty. However, 10 minutes later, he found the centre of the posts.

In the final play of the half Crosby squeezed over for the first try in the left hand corner.

The second half was much like the first half in that both teams went toe-to-toe with one another as a kicking duel for territory became prevalent.

Crosby St Mary's scored three more tries.

First, Crosby's full back scythed through to score in the left corner.

The visitors centre broke through four Littleborough tackles to score under the poss.

To add salt to the Litteborough wound, Crosby added another try in the left-hand corner.
