Walking rugby sessions
Rochdale Hornets Sporting Foundation has been awarded a £9,850 grant by Sport England’s Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Activity Fund - to deliver walking rugby in Rochdale.
Walking rugby is a slow-paced version of rugby league and is suitable for all abilities. The sessions will be delivered in partnership with Your Trust and will be adapted to cater for all backgrounds and experiences of rugby league - veterans of the game are welcome as are newcomers.
Commenting on the award, Chris Tomlinson, Business Development Director of the Rochdale Hornets Sporting Foundation said: “Thanks to the support of Sport England’s Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Activity Fund we can engage more of the community and provide a fun way for people of all ages to participate in another form of rugby league.
“Walking rugby is growing in popularity across the UK, particularly with older generations, and I’m excited to launch it in Rochdale. Activities such as this are more than just sport, it is an opportunity to socialise, meet new friends and take advantage of the wide range of health benefits associated with exercise.”
The Hornets Foundation’s walking rugby sessions will start on 5 September and be delivered at Littleborough Sports Centre on Mondays from 10-11am, with coffee and tea provided after the session. The sessions will be free of charge in September, before a regular ongoing cost of £2.50 thereafter.
