SBG Rochdale taking part in a 24-hour grappling challenge

Date published: 09 December 2022

The team at SBG Rochdale are taking part in a 24-hour grappling challenge, with gym members sparring on the mats for a full day without a break.

From 12-noon on Friday 9 to 12-noon Saturday 10 December, the team will grapple in aid of the REORG charity to help serving and former members of the Armed Forces that are suffering from physical and mental injuries.

The REORG charity was started by Sam Sheriff, a former Royal Marine, who served in Afghanistan and wanted to to help his comrades that were returning from war with gun shot wounds and loss of limbs due to to IED blasts.

REORG is now a globally renowned charity with ambassadors such as actor Tom Hardy; Mark Ormrod, the UK forces first triple amputee in Afghanistan, and Martin Stapleton, head coach at SBG Rochdale.

Martin said: "The REORG charity is a very important organisation to myself for obvious reasons. Sam is a very good friend of mine, I’ve been involved with helping REORG since the start and the charity has helped numerous friends that were injured during our time in war zones. It’s an honour for me to be an ambassador and hopefully the money we raise this weekend will help someone's recovery down the line."
