Henderson's Boxing Day backheeler shortlisted for goal of the month

Date published: 13 January 2023

Ian Henderson’s backheel goal against Hartlepool on Boxing Day has been shortlisted for the December the Sky Bet League Two Goal of the Month Award.

The nomination for Dale's all-time leading goalscorer reads: "Henderson has always possessed a mind that sees opportunities others can’t, so when the ball arrived at his feet with his back to the Hartlepool goal, a backheel was the obvious choice, right?"

Other worthy goals shortlisted include ‘the deftest of touches and an immaculate placed curler’ from Tom James (Leyton Orient v Bradford City on 3 December); an angled cross from Sam Hoskins (Mansfield Town v Northampton Town on 26 December), and a free-kick from Ethan Chislett (AFC Wimbledon v Newport County on 26 December).

Fans are invited to vote for their favourite goal on EFL.com before 5pm on Monday 16 January.

The supporters' votes will be combined with the choices from a panel to determine the winners.

The judging panel comprises Sky Sports’ EFL experts Don Goodman and David Prutton.
