Cricket: Defeat for Littleborough in their opening game of the season

The JW Lees Lancashire Cricket League started on Sunday (16 April 2023) and Littleborough hosted Burnley at Hare Hill in their first Senior Division 1 match after being promoted.

Last season's Division 2 champions Littleborough won the toss and elected to bowl.

Burnley scored 176 for 6 wickets in their 50 overs.

Littleborough substitute professional Ashen Silva took three of the six Burnley wickets for 55 runs, Ben Williamson 2 for 35, and Ryan Miskella 1 for 34.

Burnley batsman Qasim Shah scored 43 off 71 balls, Ockert Erasmus 38 off 110, Joe McCluskie 28 off 44, and Chris Burton 19 (not out) off just 21 balls.

Burnley restricted Boro to 71, taking ten Boro wickets in 35.5 overs, to win by 105 runs.

Burnley professional Ockert Erasmus took seven Boro wickets for 18 runs, Fergus Bailey 2 for 14, and the other wicket a run out.

The only Littleborough batsman into double figures was Zac Perren with his 47 not out off 106 balls.

Umpires were Ian Herbert and Irfan Kazi, the scorer was Stuart Roberts.

Littleborough's next game sees them travel to Ramsbottom on Sunday 23 April.
