Boxing: Hamer Boxing Club report

Date published: 21 April 2023

20-year-old Aeron “The Viking” Maddocks made the journey to the Fusion on Fleet Street, Liverpool on Thursday 13 April to step into the ring and compete against local boxer, 26-year-old Jeremy Espinal Flores of Golden Gloves ABC.

Aeron stepped out of the blue corner ready for action from the first bell, and he and his opponent began to probe with their jabs, to find their range whilst searching for openings. The first attack saw “The Viking” step in with a one-two combination to the head, only to receive a solid left hook to the side of his head. Both boxers continued to probe with their jabs. But when the crowd saw an exchange of punches, it was Aeron who began to land the most telling blows.

Halfway through the round, Aeron stepped in again to land a solid right hand to the chin, just as Flores began to slowly get back into the fight with his straight left- and right-hand combinations to the head. But the Hamer boxer soon silenced the excited noise from within the room, when he also began to step in to land the same one-two combinations to the head, just before the bell rang to end the round.

When the bell rang for round two, Aeron came straight out to throw a right hand to the chin, followed by a solid left hook to the side of the head. Then suddenly, the crowd began to cheer and shout as both boxers stood in the centre of the ring exchanging furious and savage punches upon each other. Although it was Aeron who was constantly landing the most telling punches, it was clear that Flores strikes to the head were much harder, although much less frequent. So, Aeron wisely began to step in and out of range as he continued to land fast two and three punch combinations to the head of Flores.

The Hamer boxer came out at the start of the third and last round throwing fast jabs to the head as his opponent stepped back onto the ropes, where Aeron suddenly unloaded two smashing right hand punches to the head. The Golden Gloves boxer continued to stay out of range and wait for Aeron to approach him, so that he could counter-punch the Hamer boxer as he stepped in, but the speed of Aeron’s punches were far too quick for him to react to, which led to “The Viking” being named the winner by a unanimous decision.
