Rugby league: Mayfield 60 - 12 Hull Dockers

Date published: 27 April 2023

It was another great all round performance from Mayfield on Saturday 22 April as they put Hull Dockers to the sword.

For the first 15 minutes of the game both sides were evenly matched with Dockers giving as good as they got Mayfield opened the scoring first with a try from Sean Penkywicz, converted by Jordan Parr, but Dockers levelled the score after five minutes and it looked like Mayfield had a tough game on their hands.

It took a little longer for Sam Butterworth's side to click into first gear but once they had, there was no going back. Hull just couldn't live with Mayfield's pace and had no answer to the skill they showed right across the pitch. The Mayfield tries came thick and fast and the pleasing thing was that the scoring was spread right through the team as the forwards ran riot and the backs exploited the gaps they created.

Although, to their credit, Dockers never gave up, the game was effectively over at half time, it was just a matter of what the score would be. Half time saw the score at 38 - 6 in Mayfield's favour, with tries coming from Ben Metcalfe, Si Moore, Devlin Long, Jack McConnachie, Dakota Tolhurst and Travis Long with five conversions from Jordan Parr.

Mayfield started the second half strongly, full of confidence and throwing the ball around. Travis Long added a further two tries and George Kinnaird and Joe Taira rounded off the try scoring, while Parr added another three conversions. The visitors showed their grit as they added a try of their own.

The final score was 60 - 12 and this was a true reflection of Mayfield's dominance. The choice for the man of the match award was unanimous as the coaches and the sponsors both selected the all action Travis Long who, besides bagging a hat-trick had probably his best game since he arrived at Mayfield.
