Boxing: Hamer Boxing Club report

Hamer Amateur Boxing Club were on the road once again, when 15-year-old 'Champagne' Charlie Braddock travelled to the Rotunda Boxing Club in Liverpool to meet local boxer Jake Badrock on Friday 21 April.

Charlie entered the blue corner to an electric noise vibrated by an excited crowd as his opponent made his entrance into the ring.

On the sound of the first bell, both boxers stepped into the centre of the ring to exchange punches, Charlie missed with a right hand and his opponent also missed with a left hook.

From there on, both boxers began to lead with their punches, whilst also throwing counter-punches when their opponent attacked. Midway through the round, the Rotunda boxer attacked, whilst throwing a one-two combination to the head, only to be met by a solid right hand to the chin from his Hamer opponent.

Then, to the delight of the crowd, the Rotunda boxer pushed forward throwing punches once again. Just as Charlie stepped back into range to land yet another cracking right-hand, only to be met by a three-punch combination from Badrock.

As the closely fought round came to an end, both boxers continued to excite the crowd as they both gained success with telling punches.

They both continued to entertain the Liverpool crowd in round two, as they landed quick and accurate punches upon each other. Badrock unloaded a right-hand to the head, which Braddock slipped, before landing a cracking right uppercut to the jaw, followed by a left hook to the side of the head.

It was around this time that the Rotunda boxer began to use his swift and effective jab, which began to connect every time the Hamer boxer approached him with his own punches to both the body and head.

As the round progressed, Charlie landed another sizzling right-hand to the body, only for Badrock to reply with a five-punch combination to the head, before the Hamer boxer landed another right-hand to the chin, followed by a left hook to the side of the head.

Then both boxers stood in the centre of the ring exchanging punches upon each other when the bell rang to end the round.

At the start of the third and last round, the Rochdale boxer stormed across the ring to land yet another right-hand to the chin, followed by a left hook to the side of the head.

Before Badrock replied with a right-hand of his own to his oncoming opponent. Charlie continued to step forward with one-two combinations. Badrock replied with swinging hooks that missed their target when the Hamer boxer slipped his punches.

From there on, the Rotunda boxer reverted back to throwing his straight right-hand, which delighted the crowd once again when it landed to the side of the Hamer boxer’s jaw. Badrock landed the same punch once again, as Charlie continued to press forward.

Then it was the turn of the Hamer boxer to gain success as he landed a right-hand to both the body and head, before Badrock replied with a straight two-punch combination to the head, on two occasions. Charlie replied with a left hook to the body, followed by a straight right to the head.

Then, just as the bell rang to end this very closely fought contest, the eventual winner, Jake Badrock, landed two more right-hand punches to the head.
